With regards to the partly qualified sector just like at the beginning of the pandemic last year, there has been no significant change in the average base salary in the sector. The demand for part-qualified accounting professionals in Malta has continued to stay relatively strong. The skills required in this area and the career journey of part-qualified accountants are more flexible and many candidates are recruited at a junior level.

Once again, the financial services market has shown stability but the salaries remain inconsistent given the variety of industries that employ junior accounting professionals. One clear issue that our previous salary surveys for Malta indicated was that not all industries were affected in the same way by covid19 with the travel/retail and tourism being more significant than some of the digital and IT sectors for example

Typically, candidates in this sector are beginning their ACCA qualification or they have decided that they no longer wish to continue studying and would rather focus on working and gaining work experience. Hiring companies are typically searching for professionals who want to progress in their careers and are eager to learn and grow within the company. With candidates normally focused on their ACCA qualification, the most sought-after benefit scheme in this sector remains the covering of study expenses and the offer of study leave.

As was the case at the beginning of the year, CSP’s are becoming the go-to place for junior finance professionals. The amount of exposure on offer, both locally and internationally, cannot be rivalled and the different industry exposure allows these junior professionals to get a feel for where they would like to see themselves in later years.
